Category 1 – Ring 999/attend A&E

  • Chest pain
  • Breathlessness – difficulty speaking
  • Collapse
  • Unconscious/unresponsive
  • Sudden onset limb weakness
  • Sudden onset difficulty speaking
  • Fall – unable to get up
  • Fitting
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Palpitations – persistent
  • Overdose
  • Accidental poisoning
  • Very severe pain
  • Significant trauma
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Floppy infant
  • Sudden onset confusion
  • Head injury with vomiting, loss of
    consciousness, fitting or visual disturbance
  • Low blood sugar

Category 2 – Emergency appointment/telephone call

  • Diarrhoea and vomiting in infant >24 hours
  • Pain/bleeding in pregnancy
  • Visual disturbance
  • Suicidal
  • Hallucinations
  • Unable to urinate
  • Moderately severe pain
  • Moderate breathlessness
  • Moderate bleeding
  • Simple head injury in infant
  • Unwell child with rash
